A tragic incident unfolded in Baji Village, located in the Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, where a farmer, Yahaya Ibrahim, succumbed to injuries sustained during an attack by suspected Fulani herders. Ibrahim passed away late Tuesday while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Lambata, following the violent encounter that left several other residents injured.

Reports indicate that Ibrahim was among the most severely injured during the confrontation, which erupted as villagers sought to protect their farmlands from the herders. Alongside Ibrahim, two other individuals, Rabiu Jibrin and Bashar Mohammed, were also hospitalized due to injuries from the attack. Eyewitness Mohammed Umaru confirmed the unfortunate news of Ibrahim's death, noting that he suffered a deep injury during the altercation.

The attack has been described as a devastating blow to the community, which has faced ongoing threats from herders. Villagers have alleged that they have been subjected to repeated assaults without adequate intervention from authorities. The situation has escalated to the point where herders are reportedly occupying the farmlands of 92 households, leading to the destruction of crops and significant hardship for the residents.

In response to the persistent attacks and the destruction of their livelihoods, the villagers attempted to confront the herders in a bid to safeguard their crops. This confrontation ultimately led to the violent encounter that resulted in injuries and the tragic death of Ibrahim.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, for comments on the incident were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered. The community is now left grappling with the aftermath of the attack, mourning the loss of Ibrahim and seeking solutions to the ongoing violence that threatens their way of life.
