A man identified as Ikechukwu Emmanuel has been arrested in Umuahia, Abia State, following serious allegations of defiling a 9-year-old girl. The incident reportedly occurred when the girl visited Emmanuel's home to ask for food.

According to Ochiegbu Marvellous, a representative of the Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation in Abia State, Emmanuel confessed to the crime during a conversation with him. The alleged defilement took place on August 16, 2026. Marvellous noted that the local youths confronted Emmanuel on August 18, 2026, after they became aware of the situation.

Reports indicate that Emmanuel attempted to evade the youths by refusing to open his door and allegedly threw the girl out of his window when they demanded entry. This shocking behavior has raised concerns in the community about the safety of children and the prevalence of sexual violence against minors.

Ochiegbu expressed his distress over Emmanuel's claims that the girl frequently visited him due to hunger, and he would provide her with food. This troubling detail highlights the vulnerability of children in such dire circumstances, where their need for basic sustenance could lead them into dangerous situations.

The Abia State Police Command has been praised for their swift action in apprehending Emmanuel, and calls for stricter measures against child sexual violence are growing louder.
