The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of child trafficking and rescued a four-year-old girl who had been abducted from Kuje, Abuja. The suspects, identified as Rose Daniel and Blessing John, were arrested on August 27, 2026, while allegedly trying to escape with the child, named Ummi Mariam Abdullah.

According to the police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest followed a tip-off from a vigilant community member who witnessed the abduction. The police acted promptly, leading to the rescue of the girl and the detention of the suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both Daniel and John were previously convicted for a similar crime in December 2025. After serving approximately five months in prison, they were released on bail. Since their release, they have reportedly been involved in the abduction and trafficking of four children to various locations across the country.

In the latest incident, the suspects were allegedly connected to an accomplice in Port Harcourt, known only as Madam Ijeoma, who is said to have purchased the abducted children for N1.5 million each. This alarming trend highlights the ongoing issue of child trafficking within the region.

The rescued girl has been reunited with her family, bringing relief to her loved ones. Meanwhile, Daniel and John remain in police custody as investigations continue. The police have indicated that the suspects will face charges once the investigation is concluded.

SP Adeh has urged parents and guardians to be vigilant regarding the safety of their children, emphasizing the importance of being aware of their whereabouts at all times. She also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the police to help combat child trafficking effectively.
