Tiger Woods, the renowned golf champion, has been handed a five-year suspension of his driver's license after entering a plea deal related to a DUI incident. The decision was made on Wednesday, September 2, in Martin County Circuit Court, Florida, where Woods pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

As part of the plea agreement, Woods will also pay a fine of $1,500. In addition to the charges, he was found guilty of careless driving, which is classified as a moving violation. The 50-year-old golfer appeared in court accompanied by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, and his attorney, Doug Duncan.

Woods was arrested on March 27 after his SUV struck a trailer being towed by a truck, causing his vehicle to roll onto its side. Initially, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. In the arrest affidavit, Woods explained that he was distracted by his cellphone and adjusting the radio, which led him to overlook the slowing truck ahead of him. During the incident, Martin County Sheriff Deputy Tatiana Levenar noted that Woods appeared to be sweating profusely and displayed lethargic movements while being interviewed.

Despite the circumstances of his arrest, a Breathalyzer test revealed no alcohol in Woods' system. However, he refused to undergo a urinalysis or blood test for other substances. Authorities later discovered two hydrocodone pills in his left pants pocket, prompting prosecutors to review his medical and prescription drug records.

Following his arrest, Woods announced on March 31 that he would be stepping away from golf to focus on his health and seek treatment. He spent several weeks in an in-patient facility in Switzerland to address his issues. Woods made his first public appearance since the incident on June 23, where he participated in a news conference at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

In 2017, he was arrested for DUI after being found asleep at the wheel of his running car, which had sustained damage and had flat tires. At that time, Woods attributed his condition to a mix of painkillers. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and entered a diversion program.
