The Nigerian equities market continued its upward trajectory on Tuesday, with the market capitalization soaring to N158.96 trillion following a robust trading session that saw the All-Share Index (ASI) increase by 0.77%. This growth added N1.22 trillion to investors' wealth, reflecting strong buying interest across various sectors, particularly in oil and insurance stocks.

The ASI closed at 246,082.63 points, marking a year-to-date return of 58.14%, up from 56.93% in the previous trading session. This positive momentum was largely driven by significant demand for large-cap and selected mid-cap stocks, with notable gains from companies such as Aradel Holdings, Nestlé Nigeria, and First HoldCo.

Aradel Holdings led the gainers with an impressive 8.83% increase, while Nestlé Nigeria followed closely with a 5.83% rise. First HoldCo also contributed to the rally with a 1.17% gain. Other strong performers included FTN Cocoa Processors, which surged by the maximum 10%, alongside MC Nichols, SUNU Assurances, Sovereign Trust Insurance, and Caverton Offshore Support Group.

Conversely, the session saw some stocks decline, with Tripple Gee and Company leading the losers with a 9.72% drop. ABC Transport and Nahco also faced significant declines of 9.52% and 9.22%, respectively. Additionally, Transnational Corporation and RT Briscoe were among the other notable decliners.

The market breadth remained positive, with 40 stocks advancing against 19 decliners, resulting in a breadth ratio of approximately 2.1x. This indicates a strong preference for buying over selling during the trading session.

Sector performance was also encouraging, with the Oil & Gas sector emerging as the top performer, rising by 3.87%. The Insurance sector followed with a 3.34% gain, while the Commodity sector saw an increase of 2.58%. Both the Banking and Consumer Goods sectors recorded gains of 0.87%, and the Industrial Goods sector appreciated by 0.71%.

Trading activity showed signs of strengthening, with total volume traded increasing by 7.44% to 651.32 million shares. The transaction value also rose by 5.35% to N40.77 billion. Access Holdings dominated trading volume, accounting for 129.89 million shares, while MTN Nigeria led in transaction value with N4.69 billion.

Despite the increase in market turnover, the total number of transactions fell by 18.16% to 43,760, suggesting that larger trades were driving the market's performance. Analysts attribute the renewed strength in the market to improving investor sentiment, particularly following Nigeria's re-entry into the FTSE Russell Frontier Market universe. This development has led investors to position themselves for increased foreign participation and enhanced market visibility.

As the ASI continues to outperform its previous-year trajectory, investors are keenly focused on corporate earnings and the potential impact of Nigeria's reclassification on capital inflows. The sustained rally indicates a reassessment of valuations as investors prepare for the expected implementation of the FTSE Russell reclassification, which is anticipated to boost Nigeria's profile among global frontier-market investors.
