The Nigeria Police Force has officially launched the Vigilant App, a new mobile platform designed to empower citizens to report financial fraud more effectively. The unveiling took place at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The Vigilant App allows users to submit reports of suspected fraud, upload relevant evidence, track the progress of their cases, and receive feedback from the police. This initiative aims to enhance public engagement and streamline the reporting process for financial crimes, which have become increasingly prevalent in Nigeria.

In conjunction with the app, the Nigeria Police Force also introduced the NPF–MTN Closed User Group Network, designed to facilitate secure and affordable communication among police officers nationwide. This network is expected to improve emergency coordination and operational response, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of police operations.

CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated that the Vigilant App was developed in collaboration with various stakeholders in the financial sector. This collaboration includes significant institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Police Service Commission, and several fintech companies, among others.

During the launch, Inspector-General Disu emphasized that these platforms represent a significant step in the Force's ongoing digital transformation efforts. He highlighted the importance of technology in modern policing, asserting that it must be utilized lawfully, ethically, and responsibly, with a focus on citizens' rights and data protection.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Fayoade Mustapha, who oversees Information and Communication Technology, remarked that these initiatives demonstrate the Force's commitment to leveraging technology to enhance service delivery and strengthen public engagement. He encouraged Nigerians to download the Vigilant App from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, urging them to use it responsibly to report any suspected financial fraud.

The Nigeria Police Force expressed gratitude to its partners, including the Central Bank of Nigeria and MTN Nigeria, for their collaboration in launching these vital tools aimed at combating financial fraud in the country.
