The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended a 22-year-old man, Bello Abubakar, in connection with the attempted murder of a commercial motorcycle rider and the theft of his motorcycle. The arrest took place following an incident that occurred on August 23, 2026, in which the victim, Bello Umar, also 22 years old and hailing from Wasagu Village in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, sustained serious injuries.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the incident unfolded when Abubakar hired Umar's motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush. It was there that he allegedly attacked the rider with a hoe, inflicting severe head injuries. After the assault, Abubakar reportedly covered Umar with leaves, believing he had killed him, and fled the scene with the motorcycle to Yauri Town.

The victim was later discovered in a critical state in the Tungar Dariya Bush, prompting a swift response from police operatives who transported him to Koko General Hospital for medical treatment. After receiving care, he was discharged, and authorities began their investigation into the attack.

Through diligent investigative work, police were able to recover the stolen motorcycle and apprehend Abubakar. The suspect is currently cooperating with law enforcement as the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry and prosecution.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, condemned the attack, labeling it a heinous act against both human life and the livelihoods of citizens. He emphasized the commitment of the police to pursue and prosecute individuals who target commercial motorcycle riders and other law-abiding citizens. Hadejia also praised the police operatives for their professionalism and rapid response in addressing the situation.
