A violent incident in New York's bustling Times Square on Monday resulted in the deaths of two individuals, following a stabbing spree by a woman armed with knives. The attacker, identified as 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros from Queens, was shot and killed by police after she fatally wounded a 32-year-old woman and injured a 68-year-old man.

The chaos unfolded in broad daylight, with Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirming the fatalities during a press conference shortly after the incident. The second victim is currently in stable condition at a local hospital, while the identities of both victims have not been disclosed pending family notifications.

According to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Cisneros, who had a history of mental health issues, brandished two large knives that she pulled from a bag emblazoned with a popular supermarket chain's logo. Witnesses reported that she threatened passersby before launching her attack.

The first victim, a 68-year-old man, was stabbed in the abdomen, followed by the assault on the 32-year-old woman, who later succumbed to her injuries. Police were quick to respond, attempting to engage Cisneros in dialogue for approximately four minutes, during which she refused to comply with their commands to drop her weapons. Tisch recounted that Cisneros defiantly stated, "I’m not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you."

In an effort to subdue her, police deployed a stun gun, but it was ineffective. Witnesses described the scene, noting that Cisneros charged at officers before they resorted to gunfire, ultimately shooting her twice. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Tisch emphasized that the police do not consider this attack to be terror-related, describing it as an extraordinarily dangerous situation that unfolded in a heavily trafficked area known for its tourism. "At any given moment, there are thousands of New Yorkers, commuters, tourists, families, workers moving through these streets," she stated.

The incident has drawn significant attention, with emergency services quickly arriving at the scene to manage the aftermath and investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. As authorities continue to gather information, the community is left reeling from the violence that erupted in one of the city's most iconic locations.
