Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior has reported significant enforcement actions against illegal residents during a week-long campaign from August 20 to 26. The operation resulted in the arrest of 14,434 individuals for various violations related to residency, labor, and border security.
The joint inspections, which involved coordination with multiple government agencies, targeted individuals who had overstayed their residency permits, worked without proper authorization, or breached border security regulations. As part of this crackdown, 14,905 people were deported from the Kingdom, highlighting the government's commitment to enforcing immigration laws.
A breakdown of the arrests reveals that 6,976 individuals were apprehended for residency violations, 4,110 for border security breaches, and 3,348 for labor law infractions. Additionally, 27 individuals were detained for providing assistance to those violating immigration laws, such as offering transportation, shelter, or employment.
Beyond the deportations, authorities referred 18,914 individuals to their respective diplomatic missions to secure travel documents, while 2,867 others were instructed to finalize their travel arrangements. Furthermore, nearly 30,000 expatriates are currently undergoing procedures to ensure compliance with Saudi immigration and residency regulations.
The Ministry of Interior has also issued a stern warning regarding the consequences for those who assist illegal residents. Individuals found guilty of facilitating unlawful entry into Saudi Arabia, transporting illegal residents, or providing accommodation could face severe penalties, including up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching SR1 million. Vehicles used for transporting offenders and properties used for sheltering them may also be confiscated.
This recent enforcement action is part of Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to uphold its immigration, residency, and labor laws. The Kingdom regularly conducts such nationwide inspections to maintain order and compliance within its borders, reflecting its commitment to regulating expatriate activities effectively.
