The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a man suspected of defiling his eight-month-old stepdaughter in the Toro Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, who issued a statement on Thursday detailing the circumstances surrounding the case.

According to the police statement, the incident was reported on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 5:34 PM. The suspect, identified as Balarabe Adamu, resides in Lame, Toro LGA, and allegedly committed the act after his wife brought the infant to their home. Following the report, the child was promptly taken to the General Hospital in Toro for medical evaluation and treatment.

The police acted swiftly upon receiving the report, with operatives from the Gumau Division arresting Adamu shortly thereafter. He is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing. Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act, emphasizing the command's commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter.

CP Aliyu assured the public that the suspect would face legal action once the investigation is concluded, reinforcing the police's zero-tolerance policy towards sexual violence and child abuse.
