Dr. Wale Ahmed, the representative for Agege Federal Constituency, has voiced his disapproval of the ongoing debate surrounding President Bola Tinubu's academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials. He labeled the renewed scrutiny as a mere political distraction as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 elections.

Ahmed's comments come in response to a recent legal challenge filed by Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice-President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Atiku is seeking Tinubu's disqualification from the upcoming presidential election based on allegations concerning his NYSC certificate. In a statement, Ahmed emphasized that the matter is still pending in court, and the allegations have not been substantiated through judicial processes.

"The case remains pending, and the allegations have not been established by a court," Ahmed stated, underscoring the importance of allowing the legal system to address the claims rather than allowing them to dominate the political discourse.

The lawmaker argued that while political figures are entitled to scrutinize public officials, the focus of election campaigns should shift towards presenting viable alternatives and solutions for governance. He expressed concern that the ongoing fixation on Tinubu's credentials detracts from pressing national issues such as the economy, security, infrastructure, and employment.

"Nigerians deserve a campaign of ideas, not an endless recycling of allegations. If anybody believes President Tinubu has failed, let that person tell Nigerians what he will do differently and how he will do it," Ahmed remarked.

In light of Atiku's renewed presidential aspirations, Ahmed acknowledged the former Vice-President's ambitions but emphasized that political dynamics must be considered. He reiterated that the presidency should remain in the South for a full eight-year term, as was the case for the North from 2015 to 2023.

"Atiku should know that longevity belongs to God. He could still be President in 2031, only if he retraces his steps to the All Progressives Congress (APC)," he added.

Ahmed concluded by asserting that the evaluation of President Tinubu should be based on his performance in office rather than on unproven allegations. "2027 cannot be reduced to who can shout loudest about a certificate. Nigerians are asking a bigger question: who has the ideas and capacity to move Nigeria forward?" he stated, calling for a more substantive political dialogue as the country approaches the next election cycle.
