In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 governorship elections in Oyo State, Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, held a closed-door meeting with Alhaji Abdul-Rasheed Adebisi Olopoeyan, a key figure in the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). The meeting took place at Olopoeyan's residence in Basorun, Ibadan, on Thursday night.

Adegoke was accompanied by Alhaja Kafilat Omolabake Olayiwola, the ADC Deputy National Women Leader for the Southwest, known as Aje-Iya. Although details of their discussions remain undisclosed, sources suggest that the meeting was closely linked to strategies for the upcoming governorship race in the Pace-Setter State.

Both Adegoke and Olopoeyan have a history of political collaboration, having previously aligned under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before transitioning to their current parties. Their renewed partnership could play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape as the 2027 elections approach.

The meeting comes at a time when tensions have emerged between Olopoeyan and the current Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, who is also the presidential candidate for the APM. Recent disputes regarding candidate selections for the December 2026 Local Government Elections have strained their relationship, with both Olopoeyan and Makinde reportedly backing competing candidates.

As the political climate intensifies, the collaboration between Adegoke and Olopoeyan may signal a strategic alliance aimed at consolidating support and resources ahead of the elections. Observers are keen to see how this partnership will influence voter sentiment and party dynamics in Oyo State as the political landscape continues to evolve.
