The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has announced a remarkable surge in its membership, with more than 150,000 individuals officially joining the party. This announcement was made by the state APC chairman, Mohammed Hassan, during a gathering of party leaders and supporters, where formal lists of approximately 117,000 new members were presented.

The influx of new members includes notable political figures such as Hamza, a former chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), around 20 former local government chairmen, and a former member of the House of Representatives. These defections signal a significant political shift in the region, as many supporters from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have also joined the APC.

At the event, the lists of new members were submitted by key party figures, including the APC's deputy governorship candidate Farouk Mustapha, former political adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed Shittu Zaki, and Hassana Arkila. The party is now focused on verifying and integrating these new members into its ward and local government structures as registration returns continue to come in from various parts of the state.

The surge in membership is attributed to the party's consistent mobilization efforts led by influential figures such as Mustapha, Zaki, Arkila, and Zainab Babban Takko. Many of the new members cited their motivation for joining the APC as stemming from the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration and the positive impact of federal government programs in Bauchi State.

Additionally, the contributions of Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, have resonated with many new entrants. His efforts in health sector reforms and federal interventions have been recognized as significant factors encouraging the influx of new members.

Despite the impressive numbers, Chairman Hassan emphasized that mere membership growth is not enough. He highlighted the importance of properly documenting and absorbing these new members into the party's structures. The verification and collation of membership records will continue as more returns are processed from across the state.

This membership surge comes at a crucial time as the APC prepares for the 2027 elections, positioning itself as a formidable force in Bauchi State's political landscape. The party's leadership remains optimistic about the potential impact of this expanded membership on their electoral prospects.
