Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed his admiration for the voters of Osun State, who he believes demonstrated remarkable courage in the recent governorship election. In a congratulatory message to Ademola Adeleke, who was re-elected for another term, Makinde highlighted that the election results showcased the people's unwavering will, despite what he termed a "sheer display of federal might" aimed at influencing the outcome.

In his statement, Makinde emphasized that Adeleke's victory symbolizes a significant triumph for democracy, asserting that the electorate holds the ultimate power in a democratic society. He noted that the outcome of the election serves as a reminder that political power can be challenged when the populace is determined to express their choice.

"I congratulate my brother and Governor of Osun State, HE Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, on his re-election for another term. This victory is a reward for his hard work and the delivery of good governance," Makinde stated. He further acknowledged the courage of Osun voters, who he said refused to be intimidated by the deployment of federal resources and institutions that attempted to suppress their electoral choice.

Makinde's remarks come in light of what he described as the limits of political power when faced with the resolve of the electorate. He warned politicians against underhand tactics that undermine democracy, stating that the recent election results serve as a lesson for those who believe they can manipulate outcomes through coercive means.

The Oyo governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the smooth conduct of the electoral process, noting that the Osun governorship election acted as a crucial litmus test ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections. He called on INEC to maintain its commitment to credible and transparent elections in the future, as the Nigerian public has high expectations.

As Adeleke embarks on his second term, Makinde urged him to view his re-election as a renewed responsibility to the people of Osun State, emphasizing the need for continued development and good governance.

This election, according to Makinde, has reinforced the notion that the will of the people will always prevail over political maneuvering, a sentiment that resonates strongly in the current political climate of Nigeria.
