Actress Judy Austin sues Rita Edochie for N1 Billion over alleged defamation
Judy Austin has initiated a N1 billion defamation lawsuit against Rita Edochie. The case highlights ongoing tensions in the Nigerian film industry.
Nollywood actress Judy Austin has filed a lawsuit against her colleague and co-wife, Rita Edochie, over alleged defamatory statements made against her.
In a Writ of Summons filed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Judicial Division, Judy accused Rita of defamation and asked the court to compel her to pay her N1 billion in general damages.
Among her demands, Judy asked the court to compel Rita to publish a full and unreserved retraction and apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers and across her social media platforms, remove all alleged defamatory statements about her from all online platforms and refrain from further publishing or circulating statements allegedly defamatory of her, and pay N50 million as costs of prosecuting the suit
The writ further states that Rita has 30 days from the date of service to enter an appearance in the suit, either personally or through a legal practitioner.
