A couple from the Bara community in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State is experiencing a mix of joy and anxiety after the birth of triplets. Sa’idu Aliyu, 27, and his wife Hafsat, have seen their family grow from three to six children following the unexpected arrival of the triplets on Tuesday.

Sa’idu, who has been married for nine years, expressed his happiness about the new additions to their family but voiced significant concerns regarding the financial implications of raising such a large household. His primary source of income is small-scale farming, which he fears may not be sufficient to support his growing family. "Although I am happy to welcome this gift from God, I am also worried about how to provide for the family. I already have three other children and now a triplet," he stated.

The couple's joy was shared by many in their community, as people flocked to the local healthcare facility to celebrate the birth. However, Sa’idu remains apprehensive about the responsibilities that come with raising three newborns simultaneously. "People have been coming to the hospital to share in our joy, but even though it seems like something to celebrate, deep inside I know that it is not going to be easy for me," he added.

Hafsat Sa’idu, the mother of the triplets, shared her delight, noting that the arrival of the babies was unexpected but welcomed. "We never expected triplets. They are a surprise to us, but we are delighted to have them," she remarked.

Hadiza Abubakar, a volunteer midwife at the Bara Primary Healthcare Centre, assisted in the delivery and confirmed that both the mother and the newborns are healthy. She emphasized the challenges that lie ahead for Hafsat, stating that raising three infants at once will require additional support. "Both the mother and infants are healthy and strong. But as with giving birth to one child, the mother certainly cannot raise them alone. She will definitely need a helping hand," Abubakar noted.

The midwife highlighted the couple's modest background and called on philanthropists and community members to offer assistance. She stressed that any form of support would greatly aid the family in meeting the immediate needs of the triplets and their other children. As the couple embarks on this new chapter of their lives, the community's support will be crucial in helping them navigate the challenges of parenthood with multiple newborns.
